Job Search | I’m More Than What You See On Paper

Coffee Talks

It’s been about 2 weeks now that I’ve been in the UK.  While it has been amazing finally being with my husband, it has also been very stressful as I’ve started my job hunt.

I have moved countries 5 times in my life and it’s always been an adjustment but finding a job was never difficult for me. In the UK however, I find myself getting very frustrated.

Drinking coffee while job hunting and searching. It's a headache but you have to always go after your dreams.

This is the first time I have been faced with recruiters, or the middleman between you and your dream job. The recruiter first has to like your resume on paper before they even consider you as a person.

The whole process gets me very frustrated because I am more than what’s on paper. I’m an ambitious person who is not scared to take risks and change countries, and move for love. However, I understand how having work experience going between USA and Russia can be a red flag to a recruiter.

I have worked very hard at every job I have ever held because I am passionate about what I do. I always strive to be the best that I can and think of ways the business can exceed their goals.

I am 100% committed to my work but I understand how on paper it might not come off that way. After all, in the past year I have held 3 jobs in 2 different countries. But I can’t put on my resume that I’ve quit that job because I relocated for my husband, or I left this job because the best decision for me in life was to be closer to my family and have a support system.

It has come to the point of where I actually walked in to a few recruitment agencies and demanded an interview. Luckily, it worked and the recruiters loved that I took the initiative!

Finally, my persistence paid off and I have interviews lined up.  Now it’s just about finding the perfect fit.  I want to be able to find a job where I can grow as a person and learn new skills.  I also want to find a position where I can have input as well and provide different points of view for the company.

I’d love to find a job where I can’t wait to get there every weekday and get started.  I have held jobs like that before so I know they are out there!

So next time you think all the doors are closing in front of you, put on your big girl shoes and kick those doors down!
