How To Clean Your Stove Top – The Kitchen Grease Cleaner
There is something about sunny days that gets me in the mood for cleaning. So, when Easter Monday fell on a bank holiday and brought us some sunshine, I was ready to clean. I knew that my biggest task for the day would be cleaning my oven and stove top because I’ve neglected it for way too long and it was covered in grease. If you’re like me and hate dealing with stubborn grease — fear no more! I have an easy and cheap kitchen grease cleaner for you – baking soda or bicarbonate of soda.
This solution actually came about by trial and error. I’ve tried just about every kind of cleaner I had on my stove top and oven glass, yet it all seemed useless. In desperation I sprinkled some soda over the grease. The soda quickly turned into a paste since I already had some water on it from my earlier cleaning attempts. I then took my cleaning cloth to wipe the paste off and was pleasantly surprised when the grease came right off!
In my midst of excitement, I called my husband over to see this magic and (of course) take some pictures for you! It was so interesting to see how the grease turned into a rubber texture and rubbed off.
Note: Don’t make the same mistake I did. Do NOT put the soda / grease leftovers down the sink or toilet. Make sure you throw it in the bin, otherwise you will be having plumbing issues (Not that I speak from experience or anything …. *rolls eyes*) but seriously, take my word for it – don’t do it.
Here you can see the grease on the left side of my stove, it was actually a pretty thick layer of oil. The oil has been there for at least 2 weeks -_- mostly because we’ve been travelling and also because I’ve been putting off cleaning the stove top because I had no idea how to battle the grease — until now!
This is what my stove top looked like after I’ve rubbed all the baking soda over the grease. Now all that’s left to do is pick up these pieces and throw them in the bin.
Here is my oven door before the cleaning — with splatters of grease.
This is what it looked like after I had sprinkled some soda on it. I then took a spray bottle and sprayed some water on top to turn the soda into a paste.
I also used this kitchen grease cleaner concoction to clean the cabinets above my stove top, which is something I’ve struggled to clean for months.
If you’re struggling with tough kitchen grease, give this baking soda a try – I promise, you won’t be disappointed!
